Onaway volleyball competes in a pair of weekend tournaments

CADILLAC-The Onaway volleyball team (6-3) went 2-2 at the 14 team Cadillac tournament this weekend. It beat its first opponent Northport 25-11 and 25-10.

It lost the second game 13-25 and 11-25 before beating Reed City 26-24, 26-28 and 15-13.

The Cardinals two wins placed it second in its pool before it moved on to the quarterfinals in bracket play. It lost to Midland 20-25 and 11-25. Midland is a class A school that Onaway beat in the same tournament last year.

Lexi Szymoniak led the day with 26 kills, 8 aces and 33 digs. Alison LeFave pitched in with 11 kills, four aces and 24 digs. Taylor Ehrke led in assists with 48 while contributing 13 digs and eight kills. Elyse Arkwood led on the serve with five aces, while picking up nine kills and 18 digs. Morganne Badgero pitched in defensively with 27 digs while scoring five kills. Ashley LaLonde had five assists, four aces and 16 digs.

Onaway also competed in the Pellston tournament the weekend before last. It went 4-1 and was knocked out of the semi-finals by Kingsley a team they’d beaten earlier in the day.

Onaway is off until Saturday, when it competes in the Rogers City volleyball tournament.


Oscoda 8, Pinconning 1

PINCONNING-The Oscoda soccer team routed Pinsconning 8-1 on Thursday to even its season record to 1-1.

The Owls were led offensively by Wyatt Livvix and Clyde Whitney. Both players scored hat tricks. Eddie Silva and Shawn Merrick booted one goal each.

Silva and Brandon Bissonette scored two assists while Livvix, Henry Post, Kyle Charters and Dennis Fay had one assist.

Oscoda was led defensively by senior goal keep Brad Curley. Curley had 15 saves. Brandy Riddle picked up four steals, five intercepts and one non-keeper save. Teammate Austin Poland took five steals and five interecepts.

The Owls travel to Grayling on Thursday and host Fairview on Wednesday, in its first North Star League matchup.


Cedarville 52, Posen 0

CEDARVILLE-The Posen football team lost against Cedarville 52-0 on Thursday.

Rushing stats for the game include:?Travis Sharpe, four carries for 46 yards; Dylan Schuch 12 carries for 24 yards; and Matthew Wisniewski eight carries for 22 yards.

Posen was led defensively by Evan Schuch with 10 tackles and three assists. Travis Sharpe had eight tackles and three assists. Kyle Knopf took down seven on his own and assisted on four. Darren Dubie had six tackles and six assists.
