Ready for another year of school

Students from across Michigan return to classes beginning Tuesday.

This being Labor Day weekend, classrooms across the state will open their doors again Tuesday and herald in a new school year. Classrooms will be neatly organized, elementary students will be smartly dressed and first-graders will, as normal, look lost on the school buses.

For administrators, it will be another year of magic. Instead of pulling rabbits from a hat, however, they will try yet again to rub nickels together to find a dime and stretch budgets as far as possible. From bus routes to bulletin boards superintendents will try to make the school year a productive one for school and staff, yet prove to the community they have done so efficiently and smartly.

And make no mistake, this isn’t your grandparents’ classroom. Today’s students have replaced pencils for tablets, blackboards for smartboards.

Class just as easily today can be at home at the kitchen table or at the home’s computer than in a building.

In the end, however, no matter where or how the learning takes place, the ultimate goal remains that of giving our youth the educational tools and knowledge they need to be successful in life.

So set your alarms and get ready for that first school bell Tuesday morning. Another school year is about to begin.
