Howard Jay Edmonds, 68, of 707 Island View Drive, Alpena, passed away at Alpena Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014.

Howard was born May 18, 1946, in Alpena to the late Wesley and Helen (Cripps) Edmonds and later served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. On Oct. 7, 1967, he married the former Jane Marion Doane. Mr. Edmonds had been employed at Abitibi as a press operator until illness forced his retirement.

He was a life member of the NRA and enjoyed shooting, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.

Mr. Edmonds is survived by his wife, Jane; four children, Dawn (Kim) Halstead, Lisa (Ricky L.) Guy, Dennis (Chauntele) Edmonds, Vicki (Keith) Klein; eight grandchildren, Kyle and Kevin Halstead, Nicole Guy, Ryan, Damian, and Cadence Edmonds, Tori and Maci Klein; five step-grandchildren; one great-grandson, Jadon Edmonds; seven step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bruce (Joan) Edmonds, Milton (Diane) Edmonds, Gary (Norma) Edmonds; two sisters, Donna (Patrick) O’Grady, Julie Edmonds; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death was a step-grandson, Joshua Halstead.

Visitation for family and friends will be at the Bannan Funeral Home Thursday from 2-8 p.m. and where the funeral service will take place on Friday at 11 a.m. with Sr. Mary Hughes SFCC officiating.
