Sue Ann Prucha passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, after a courageous battle against leukemia. At the time of her death, she was surrounded by her loving husband, Charles and her three children.

Sue was born in 1939 in Caro, Mich., to the late Howard and Ruth Lamble. She met Skip Prucha while ice-skating in 1956; they were married in 1961, came to Alpena on their honeymoon, and never returned to Detroit. After building their home in Presque Isle, Sue raised three, successful children all of whom graduated from the University of Michigan. Sue took extreme pride in her children: her eldest son, Matthew Prucha and his wife, Debbie of Humble, Texas, Paul and his wife, Lori of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., and Becky and her husband, Rod of Bangkok, Thailand. In addition to her children, seven grandchildren, four sisters, one brother, and countless friends survive Sue.

Known for her outspoken personality and feisty spirit, Sue spoke her mind often with perfect hair and lipstick. Her favorite pastime was sitting in the shade with a good book and “the recipe” on the rocks.

One of her proudest accomplishments was her volunteer work in the development and upkeep of the Presque Isle Cemetery. Recently, she received the Community Service Award for her work in Presque Isle Township. Sue was also a long time parishioner of St. Bernard’s Church and a semi-supportive fishing wife.

Visitation hours were from 4 to 8 p.m. with a parish prayer service at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24th at McWilliams Funeral Home -Alpena and will resume on Monday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church with interment following at Presque Isle Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donatations to MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Please also consider donating blood or bone marrow in Sue’s honor.
