DONNA C. MATUSZEWSKI
Donna C. Matuszewski, age 84 of Rogers City passed away Aug. 22, 2014 at Tendercare Health Center in Rogers City.
She was born June 21, 1930 in Rogers City to Lawrence and Ruth (Peter) Carter.
Donna married Donald J. Matuszewski on Feb. 9, 1950 at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Metz. She graduated from Rogers City High School in 1949. Donna worked as a copy writer at the inception of the radio station WHAK; was a photo re-toucher at the Parson’s Studio; worked at the Advance Newspaper office and wrote a column called Across My Desk; She retired from Rogers City Area Schools as a reading aide and study hall supervisor. Donna enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, and collecting dolls. Mrs. Matuszewski was a member of the German singing group The Harmonie Choraleers and St. Ignatius Catholic Church.
Donna is survived by three daughters, Joan Herrick of Alpena, Janis (Paul) Smolinski of Rogers City, and Barbara Roberson of AuGres; five grandchildren; Amy Altman, Dennis Smolinski, Michael Altman, Ryan Herrick, and Charles Smolinski; one great granddaughter; sister, Rosemary Trapp; sister-in-law, Rita (John) Kleiber and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Matuszewski was preceded in death by her husband, Don on May 2, 2011; son-in-law, Dennis D. Skiera on March 27, 1978; father, Lawrence in August of 1958; mother, Ruth in June of 1979; brothers, Lawrence “Bud” Carter in November of 1967 and Stanley Carter in April of 2010; sisters, Georgina Goff in October of 1976; Edra Elizabeth (Libby) Miller in May of 2008, and Dorothy Riedlinger in March of 2014.
Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3-8 p.m. with the parish wake service at 7 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Ignatius Catholic Church by Fr. Sylvestre Obwaka on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Per Donna’s request, there will be no viewing on Wednesday.
Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in Donna’s name to St. Ignatius Catholic School, Tendercare Activities Department, or Hospice of the Sunrise Shore.
