David L. Gauthier, 59, of Black River, died on Friday, August 1, 2014, following an extended illness at U of M Hospitals Critical Care Unit, Ann Arbor.

He was born Dec. 27, 1954, to Charles and Annie (Smith) Gauthier in Taylor, Mich. During his senior year at Taylor High School he worked as a machinist Co-op Student at Karr Manufacturing and upon graduation for Rickert’s Tool in Lincoln. He returned to the Taylor area and worked at Ecorse Machinery Rebuildersas a machinist for 30 years. He then moved to his Black River home.

He was preceded in death by his mother. He is survived by his father, Charles Gauthier, of Black River; one brother, Lyle, Saginaw; and three sisters, Carol (Mark) Kraynak, Saginaw; Charlotte Gauthier (Joe) Donajkowski, Hubbard Lake and Barbara Gauthier, Annandale, Va. Four nieces, Shaina (Jesse) Moore, Midland Mich., Nichole (William) Bryant, Dyesbur, Tenn., and Samara and Xavier Donajkowski, Hubbard Lake. Three nephews, Lyle Gauthier Jr. (Ruby) Neosho, Mo., Tellis Donajkowski, Hubbard Lake, and Ross Kraynak, Chicago. David’s companion, Australian Shepherd Patches, has found a new home with the Donajkowski family of Hubbard Lake.

Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Black River. Cremation has taken place and a cemetery memorial will be determined at a later date.
