Leona C. Wisniewski, age 80, passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at Alpena Regional Medical Center.

She was born July 30, 1934, to the late Casimer and Stephanie (Damiencki) Wisniewski. She graduated from Alpena Catholic Central in 1952; and from Madonna College in 1956, and later obtained a Masters Degree in Education. She was employed as an elementary school teacher and reading consultant with Lincoln, Bingham, Maple Ridge and Long Rapids Schools. In addition to her many assets as a teacher, she was concluding her career as a principal. Leona was a member of Delta Cappa Gama, League of Women Voters, Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, she was also the President of the Board of the Condo Association of Oliver Street for many years, and active on the board for the Jesse Besser Museum. She was also a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church.

Leona is survived by her two brothers, Norbert Wisniewski of Alpena, and Donald (Kathy) Wisniewski of Alpena. In addition to a brother-in-law Myron Olsen, sister-in-law Sandra Wisniewski of Alpena. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Wisniewski; three sisters, Esther Olsen, Barbara Sleeper and Jeanette Wisniewski.

Friends and family will gather at the Karpus Hunter Funeral Home Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., and visitation will continue Wednesday, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Karpus Hunter Funeral Home with the Reverend Father James Fitzpatrick officiating.
