LORITZ, Alvin “Al” passed away on March 20, 2014 in Lake Placid, Fla. Al was born March 23, 1930 on a ranch in Hebron, ND to the late Henry and Elizabeth Loritz.
He leaves behind a wife, Pat, of 56 years, four children: Michelle (Brian) Johnson, Brent, Pati and Keith (Beth) Loritz, 10 grandchildren: Dr. Kristy Johnson, Colten, Kelly, Ryan, Sara, Kevin, Matthew, Troy, Patricia (Mike), Lee, Cody and one great-grandchild, Hannah. Preceding him in death was one son, Gary; two grandchildren, Kyle and Steven. He also leaves behind siblings; Victor, Harold, Vernice, Lauretta and Mavis. Preceding him in death was his sister, Leone.
Al spent his younger years on his dad’s ranch in North Dakota, and then enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War for three years. He relocated to Mich., and met Pat and they were married on Feb. 15, 1958. Al was employed at Unistrut Detroit Service as an ironworker #25 for 40 years. While in Westland, he was a coach for the Westland Youth and coached baseball and won two City Championships for the 10-12 year division. He loved golfing, hunting and fishing with his boys and friends. Whenever football or basketball season began, you could hear him yelling “Go Michigan or Go Blue”. Upon retirement, they moved to Alpena on Long Lake. Al was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and loved to have family around whenever they could come. Whoever he met during his lifetime became his friend. He will be remembered and missed by all.
A service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2425 Frederick Ave, Alpena. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice. On-line condolences may be registered at www.mcwilliamsfh.com.
