Legion Auxiliary meal planned for two students

A potluck supper will be held preceding the Aug. 14 meeting of William F. Weine American Legion Post and Auxiliary to honor Boys State attendee Joshua Bell and Girls State attendee Mariah Purol. The meal will be served at 6 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for the potluck.

The two honorees returned recently from the session and will report on their experiences at the upcoming meeting.

Past President Carol Belanger presided at the July 10 meeting. The charter was draped in memory of Mabel Cole, a past president who passed away recently.

A detailed report was given of the Poppy Day event. A donation of $300 will be given to the Forgotten Eagles during their visit to Alpena on Aug. 7. The ceremony will be held at the Alpena County Courthouse at 1:45 p.m. All are invited to attend.

A letter of appreciation was received from Joshua Bell, thanking the organization for the opportunity to attend the Boys State session and to those who served their country.

The 50/50 drawing was won by Diane Struzik and Carol Belanger’s name was drawn for the attendance prize, which she donated to the Flora Smith Nursing Scholarship fund. Door prizes were awarded to Jeanne Polluch, Marie Scagell, JanMarie Kendzorski, Judy Vandervort, Brenda Craft, Ursula Purol, Patricia LaHaie, Jan Baumgart, Struzik and Belanger.
