Alpena 12U falls to Prairie Village

LEXINGTON KENTUCKY-The Alpena 12U team was eliminated from World Series playoff contention by Prairie Village, Kentucky when it lost 12-7 on Saturday.

Alpena (2-2) was led at the bat by Kyle VanDusen and Jared Sharpe, with two hits each. Aiden Goike, Chris DeRocher, Colby Plowman, Jordan Schultz and Eli Winter picked up single hits while Owen Limback drew a walk.

Alpena only struck out four times, with most of its outs coming in the form of 18 fielded balls.

DeRocher pitched 3.2 innings for the loss. He gave up six hits and eight earned runs and walking six. He fanned six batters.

Goike pitched the last 2.1 innings, giving up one hit and three earned runs, while striking out two and walking nine. He went 1-2-3 in the fifth inning.

Sharpe was honored as the “Player of the Game” by the tournament committee.
