RICHARD J. MCDONALD

Richard J. McDonald, age 78 of Rogers City, passed away July 14, 2014 at home.

He was born Sept. 22, 1935 in Alpena to Leonard and Lucille (Kieliszewski) McDonald. On Dec. 29, 1956, he married Marie E. Jaeger at St. John Lutheran Church. Richard started his career as a Merchant Marine at the age of 18. He retired from USS Great Lakes Fleet as Chief Engineer in October of 1999. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and the building committee during the construction of the new sanctuary. Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, decorating the outside of the house for holidays, and spending time with family and his dog Copper.

Mr. McDonald is survived by his wife, Marie; 7 children, Susan (Larry) Altman, Paul (Pam) McDonald, Cora (Wayne) Augsburger, Cheryl (Mark) Kowalewsky, Mary Jo (Scott) Hein, Sarah (Jeff) Kamyszek, and Elizabeth (Robert G. II) Entenmann; 19 grandchildren, Melissa (Chris) Schleben, Amanda (Frankie) Jumper, Patrick Altman, Kevin McDonald, Samantha McDonald, Megan McDonald, Elena McDonald, Stacie (Steve Papineau) Augsburger, Matthew (Ashley) Augsburger, Taylor Kowalewsky, Sloan Kowalewsky, Cason Kowalewsky, Dustin Hein, Jacob Hein, Isaac Hein, Alyssa Jo Hein, Cole Kamyszek, Joshua Kamyszek, and Robert G. Entenmann III; eight great grandchildren, Brandon Schleben, Brandon McCormick, Hayli McCormick, Nevaeh McCormick, Erica Jumper, Hunter Jumper, Ajay Jumper, and Ella Papineau; pne sister, Helen (Ken) Bullis; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Lucille; and an infant sister, Rosemary.

Friends may visit at the Beck Funeral Home on Thursday from 3 until 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday at Peace Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. through time of funeral at 11 a.m. with Pastor J. Derek Riddle officiating.

Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church, St. John Lutheran School, Hospice of the Sunrise Shore, or a charity of your choice.
