Auxiliary awards 2 Orr scholarships
During the Alpena Regional Medical Center Auxiliary’s annual banquet, Fran Homant, chair of the scholarship committee, presented the Thelma Orr Memorial Scholarships. The scholarship is named in honor of Thelma Orr, RN, and founding hospital auxiliary member. Two $1,500 scholarships were presented. Recipients were Amy Dziesinski and Heather Rouleau.
Dziesinski is pursuing her RN and BSN concurrently through Alpena Community College and University of Michigan Flint. Dziesinski worked as a nuclear medicine tech at the University of Virginia Medical Center. She worked with pediatric oncology patients and says those kids taught me more about the strength of the human spirit in their short lives than most adults do in a lifetime.
Rouleau graduated with her BS degree in communication disorders and is pursuing her graduate degree in speech language pathology at Central Michigan University. She said that communication is one of the most essential elements of our existence; it branches into nearly every aspect of our lives.
