Betty Robb Leonard of Harrisville died peacefully Sunday, June 29, 2014, in Alpena surrounded by family.

She is survived by children Joan (Dwight) Benner, Joyce Allred, Kaye LaFollette (David Gibbs), Beth (Steven) Sponseller and Robert (Kenda) Leonard; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard Robb of Alpena, three sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Grant, and five sisters and six brothers preceded her in death.

She graduated from Alpena High School and Alpena County Normal and taught at Oak Grove School prior to her marriage to Grant Leonard on Nov. 7, 1942. She was a member of the Harrisville United Methodist Church from the time of her marriage and taught Sunday School for several years. She served on the Harrisville School Board the first year of her marriage. Later, she was a 4-H Sewing Leader. She was a long time member of the Craftmakers Cabin and supporter of the Art Fair in Harrisville.

She was an accomplished bridge player traveling to tournaments when possible and she golfed and bowled in leagues. She was a practicing artist who worked in oil, acrylic and water color and displayed her work locally.

The family will greet friends at the Gillies Funeral Home in Harrisville on Friday, July 11, 2014, from 4-7 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Harrisville United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Linda Jo Powers officiating. Memorial gifts may be made to the Harrisville United Methodist Church or to the Harrisville Branch of the Alcona County Library.
