Man, woman taken to hospital following accident

Alcona County Sheriff Department deputies are investigating an ATV accident that injured two people late Friday.

Deputies were dispatched at around 11:15 p.m. after a 27-year-old Ferndale man and his female passenger were ejected from their 2014 Polaris Sportsman ATV, according to a release. The two had been riding on Sanborn Trail near Almond Road when the man lost control and went off the trail, hitting a tree.

Both the driver and passenger, a 27-year-old Sterling Heights woman, were transported to Alpena Regional Medical Center by Alcona EMS. The male driver wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. He was later transferred to a Saginaw hospital for his injuries, and his passenger was admitted to ARMC for serious injuries.

Deputies are still investigating the accident, and alcohol appears to have been a factor, according to the release. Barton City First Responders also were dispatched to the scene.
