Willard (Bill) Alstrom, 88, of Ossineke, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Spruce on July 7, 1925 to Everett and Gertie (Dahl) Alstrom, Bill graduated from Alpena High School in 1943. He joined the US Navy in 1943 and on Nov. 4, 1943 he married Norma Ferris, also from Spruce, while on leave. He served in the US Navy during WWII.

Surviving are his wife, Norma and two daughters, Susan and Karen Alstrom, both of Alpena, six grandchildren, Greg Alstrom Sr., Ossineke, Amy (Ken) Weischowski, Alpena, Matt (Mindie) O’Neil, Ballwin, Mo., Jeremy (Mia) Kozak, Washington, Mich., Jeff (Alicia) Kozak, Midland and Steven Wilson, Ossineke, 10 great-grandchildren, Greg Alstrom Jr., Port Huron, Josh and Tyler Weischowski, Alpena, Victor, Nick, and Hannah O’Neil, Ballwin, Mo., Gloria and Emily Kozak, Midland, and Amelia and Ryder Kozak, Washington, Mich.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Frank and three sisters, Virginia Anderson, Carol Martinson and Ingrid Pena.

He retired as a sailor on the Great Lakes after 28 years as a 3rd assistant engineer.

He was the last charter member of the William Moore Post 6754 Veterans of Foreign Wars, of Spruce, was a member of the Ossineke United Methodist Church and the Ossineke Eagles Aerie 3762.

His body has been donated the University of Michigan Anatomical Donation program.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2014,11:00 a.m. at the Ossineke United Methodist Church, Pastor Mike Kelley will officiate.

Full military honors will be accorded by William Moore Post 6754 and Alpena Post #2496 of Alpena.

Donations may be made to the Ossineke Methodist Church or Hospice of Michigan.
