Alcona EDC seeks business for incubator

The Economic Development Corporation of Alcona County is looking for entrepreneurs who are seeking the ideal place to open a small business in Harrisville.

Harbortown Marketplace, a retail business incubator, has several spaces available for small businesses. Whether individuals want to start a new business or expand or relocate an existing business the opportunity to do so in a mini-mall setting is there.

The spaces available are being offered with flexible leases that include utilities. There also is customer parking adjacent to the building. In addition to local residents who shop in Harrisville, Harbortown draws customers from the Harrisville State Park which is within walking distance and also from the Harrisville Harbor on Lake Huron. Tourists from around the state and country also visit Harrisville all year long.

The incubator has been open since 2002. Over the years many new businesses have started there and some have moved their businesses from the incubator to other and larger locations.

“The opportunity to locate a business in a newer facility was one of the main factors in my decision to start my business at Harbortown. In addition, it is great to have other businesses located in the building as it is a bigger draw to have several businesses in one place. Customers like that,” said Judy Labadie, owner of Coming Attractions, which recently moved to a bigger space after starting in Harbortown five years ago.

Individuals can call Labadie, EDC board member at 724-3400 for additional information and to arrange a tour of the building to see how this location can help them with business ownership.
