Decker family chosen as Honorary Chairs for Aliferis race

Alpena Regional Medical Center is proud to announce Dr. James and Marga Decker and family as this year’s Honorary Race Chairs for the Development Council’s 13th Annual Aliferis Memorial Race.

Dr. Decker, Marga, and their four children, Brianna (14), Jimmy (12), Karlin (10) and Audrey (8) have been participating in the race for several years, whether it is biking, running or walking. In fact, five years ago Brianna participated in the bike race with her dad. The family enjoys being active but even more, doing activities as a family. Dr. Decker is a family practitioner at Alpena Medical Arts since moving to Alpena in 2002. Marga is an active volunteer with her children’s organizations and interests.

“It is an honor to be chairs of the race as a family,” Marga said. “We have been participants for years and love being outdoors in this beautiful area, whether we are cross-country skiing on Norway Ridge, biking a trail, or walking on the city bi-path.”

“It is encouraging to see Dr. Decker and his family so active in the community, placing a priority on healthy lifestyles and doing things together as a family. The Decker’s are ongoing supporters of the Aliferis Race, ARMC, and what it offers our community. We are excited to have them as this year’s Honorary Race Chairs,” said Ann Diamond, ARMC Development Director.

The 13th Annual Aliferis Race, hosted by the ARMC Development Council’s Business Relations Committee, takes place Saturday, August 30.

The race has been named in memory of longtime Alpena General Hospital Pathologist, Dr. Peter Aliferis. His work at the hospital of 37 years touched many people. This annual race is in appreciation of his contributions to the hospital and to the community. Dr. Aliferis retired in July 2000 and passed away from cancer March 13, 2002.

This year the committee is continuing the Duathlon (5K and 18.5 Bike Race). Other events include the 5K Run, 1-mile Family Run/Walk, 18.5-mile Bike Race, and the ever popular Tot Trot for those 9 and under.

Participants can register online at myarmc.org, click on News & Events. Race forms are also available in the Development Department.
