AHS graduate attending prestigious workshop on U of M campus
Dylan Goike, a 2014 Alpena High School graduate, is one of 40 students chosen from around the United States and worldwide to attend the University of Michigan’s MPulse Summer Musical Theatre Workshop.
Selection was based on a student’s application (including training and experience), professional recommendations, high school academic performance, and their ability and talent determined through extensive vocal and acting audition submissions.
This three-week workshop runs July 13-Aug. 2, and gives students the opportunity to work on the Ann Arbor campus with faculty members in the renowned U of M Department of Musical Theatre.
A few of the workshop topics include: analysis of song lyrics, acting techniques, work with major dance choreographers, voice study, audition techniques, acting technique for song interpretation, trends in musical theatre in New York City, and tools for creating character and situation.
On the final day of the workshop, family is invited to attend a demonstration of techniques studied during the three weeks of the workshop.
Goike has been active in the AHS Masquers Club, Thunder Bay Theatre and productions at Alpena Civic Theater. He plans to pursue a degree in musical theater.
