Andrew Frear Butt, 90, of Ossineke, died Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Tendercare Alpena.

Andrew was born January 9, 1924, to Andrew Thomas Frear and Margaret (Gibson) Butt in Harbor Beach, Mich. He graduated from Alpena High in 1942. Shortly after graduation he joined the United States Navy where he served as a medic during WWII. He later went on to receive his Bachelor’s from Michigan State University in 1950. Four years later on May 1, 1954, Andrew married Heller Habecker to which they were blessed to share just over 60 years together. Andrew was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Sigma Ki fraternity at MSU, the Engineering Society of Detroit, he served on the board of director’s for the retirement society for the Methodist Church, was very active with the Besser Museum, was the volunteer of the year for Hospice in Alpena, was an avid golfer, loved to cook, and enjoyed his routine shopping trips where he would visit with all the employees. Andrew never had a negative word for anybody, always building people up. He was a blessing to all and the love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control that he shared will be missed.

A memorial service for Andrew will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at McWilliams Funeral Home – Alpena where family and friends may gather from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 11 a.m. with Rev. Gene Bacon officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Besser Museum.
