The Storch Soccer Academy is now taking registrations for a Goalkeeper Camp for 8-18 year olds ($75) and a Premier Camp for 10-18 year olds ($75) will be offered the week of July28-August 1. For more information, contact Tim Storch at 248-961-2553 or at

The new and locally managed Alpena Flyers Junior Hockey Team is pleased to announce the scheduling of a pre-draft camp for the 2014-2015 season. This will be a two day camp on August 8-9 at the Northern Lights Ice Arena in Alpena. The camp will consist of one session on Aug. 8 from 6:30-8 p.m. and two sessions on Aug. 9. Times for Saturday are 9-10:30 a.m. and 5-6:30 p.m. The cost for the camp is $125 per player.

All players must bring/submit a “Consent to Treat”/Medical History form on the day of the tryouts. Payment must be submitted, along with the above mentioned form, to the Alpena Flyers, 751 Woodward Avenue, Alpena, MI 49707. The Hillman football team is holding its inaugural 5K Run/Walk Fundraiser on July 5. Registration will be held from 8-8:50 a.m. at the end of Progress St. at Tiger Paw Park. Thunder Bay Soccer Association (TBSA) Fall soccer registrations will be held June 26 at the East Campus Soccer Fields in Alpena from 5:30-7pm. Registration forms can also be downloaded, filled out and mailed in with payment. The Dork Brothers are hosting the Fannie-A Open Water Challenge on July 5 at the National Marine Sanctuary/Rotary Island.

This race is a seven-mile open water rowing, kayaking and canoeing event down the Thunder Bay River starting at the Rotary Bridge. It starts at 8:15 a.m. and runs in rain or shine.

Participants must provide a boat. Awards will be given to male and female winners in four age groups in each vessel type.

Early entry is $10 per participant and must be turned in by July 1. Any entries after July 1 will be $15. Limited edition event t-shirts are available for $12. All rowers must be 18 years of age or older.

Interested parties can fill out entry forms and send it, with payment, to Dork Brothers, P.O. Box 301, Alpena, MI 49707. Race day entry forms are accepted between 7 and 8 a.m.

Thunder Bay Soccer Association (TBSA) will be holding open tryouts for the Alpena FC youth travel soccer teams on Mon.June 30, and Tues. July 1 at the Woodward Soccer Fields in Alpena from 5:30-7:30 p.m. All interested players U10 and above, both boys and girls, should attend and be ready to play. The inaugural Battle of the Paddles will be held on July 5 on the Thunder Bay River by the National Marine Sanctuary. Is is a 3K paddle board race which starts at the rotary bridge and goes to the mouth of the river and back. Cost before July 1 is $5 for students and $10 for adults. Cost after July 1 is $10 per student and $15 per adult. All racers must bring a paddleboard, baddle and PFD Type III.

Alpena High School Football strength and conditioning workouts take place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout the summer from 57 p.m. Students should come in through the locker room back entrance. Any Alpena High School student interested in playing football is welcome.

Alpena High School Football Camp will take place on July 28-30 from 6-8 p.m. at the football practice fields. There is a $20 fee for camp.

The AHS Football Right to Know (parent meeting) will be held at 7:30 PM on July 28 in the AHS auditorium. For additional information, call Coach Brian Tippman at 358-5219.

The Dork Brothers Racing 2014 Independence Day 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Run will take place on July 4.

The Fun Run starts at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K Run/Walk starts at 9 a.m.

Costs are-No Shirt: $10 for students, $20 adults/$40 family. Shirts (if available) are an additional $15.

Lost Lake Woods Club 2nd Annual 5k trail run and 3k trail walk will be held on July 26. Packet pick up is at 7am and races start at 8am. This year all proceeds will benefit the Alcona FFA Chapter.
