Optimist Club of Rogers City recognizes two students for May

Isaac Hein and Matthew Newhouse, both of Rogers City, were recognized by the Optimist Club of Rogers City as Students of the Month for May.

Hein, son of Scott and Mary Jo Hein, just completed fifth grade. He is considered an excellent student who strives to do his best at all times.

He was nominated by Stacy Purol and Karen Quade, who said, “Isaac is a class leader and role model. He reacts well, showing care and concern for his peers and other students at St. John.”

Hein is involved with community activities such as wrestling, football, basketball and Little League. He actively participates in church activities as well.

Newhouse, son of Greg and Jocelin Newhouse, just completed fifth grade at Rogers City Elementary School. He was chosen because he is an outstanding student academically as well as a good citizen.

“You can count of Matthew to turn his work in on time with accuracy and excellence,” said Mrs. Tebo, who nominated him for the award. “Matthew is willing to help his classmates as well as be of assistance to his teacher.”

Newhouse is active in several community activities. He participates in sports, playing football for the Rogers City Bears. He also plays basketball and Little League, and is a member of the Lego Club at school. He is a line leader and a reading buddy at the elementary school.
