Theodore (Ted) J. Brockette, 79, died Friday, June 20, 2014. He leaves his wife of 57 years, Shirley; sons Alan, Craig (Kelly), and daughters Linda Brockette (aka Ploeg), and Renee (Lyle) Dorr, 15 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Ted’s wife and family were the pride and joy of his life. Family time playing cards, swimming, skiing, and numerous other joys impressed upon us how important family is.

Ted was a Korean War veteran, serving in the USAF and continued serving with the Army reserves, retiring at the rank of Warrant Officer. After the war he was an electronics specialist for Lear Siegler/Smith Ind. during his 42 year career. He graduated from ITT Tech in Detroit and Western Michigan University; was an evening electronics instructor at GRJC. Ted started a Boy Scout Troop and was Troop Master, served with the Civil Air Patrol, taught Sunday school, and was an avid cheerleader of any event in which his children or grandchildren participated. Ted enjoyed lively, interesting conversations with family and friends and was known to enjoy an occasional glass of single malt Scotch.

Ted was raised in the United Methodist church, and always understood that this life is very temporary. He was a spiritual man and trusted that Jesus would bring him to his heavenly home. He was an avid reader, and spiritual topics were of great interest to him. He was a Mason and he supported numerous charities that helped children fulfill their potential. The most important value he taught was to be kind and do something kind for others. In that spirit, in lieu of flowers, a donation to Saint Judes Children’s Hospital may be made in Ted’s name, or do a kindness for someone. A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, June 28th at 11:00 a.m. at the Marne United Methodist Church, 14861 Washington Street, Marne, Mich. Online condolences may be directed to McWilliams Funeral Home,
