Local players competing in hoops showcase

Several local boys and girls basketball players will get one more chance to take the court this season.

The Michigan Interscholastic Connection is hosting the inaugural North Star Showcase on Saturday at Gaylord St. Mary High School.

The MIC’s showcase will include 36 athletes from 21 Northern Michigan Schools and many local players will be participating. The showcase includes a girls basketball game at 1:45 p.m., a boys basketball game at 3:30 p.m., a slam dunk competition and three-point contest.

For the games, teams are divided into East and West. In the boys game, Hillman boys basketball coach Eric Muszynski will coach the East team, which will include Alcona’s Carson Jamieson, Alpena’s Andy Marwede, Hillman’s Mike Klein, Onaway’s Carlos Bautista and Joe O’Bradovich and Rogers City’s Chris Lopez.

In the girls game, Posen girls basketball coach Karl Momrik and Onaway girls basketball coach Marty Mix will coach the East team. Local players competing for the East include Hillman’s Jensen Tchorzynski, Onaway’s Erika Price, Posen’s Korynn Hincka and Rogers City’s Courtney Streich.

The event is open to the public with an admission charge of $5.
