Samuel Curtis Thackston, 96, of Pullman, Wash., and formerly of Lynchburg and Farmville passed away Friday, June 13, 2014, at his residence. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ruth G. Thackston.

Born in Darlington Heights, Va., June 15, 1917, he was the son of the late Samuel H. Thackston and Evie M. Baker Thackston. He had an older brother, James. Curtis was retired from Alpena General Hospital in Alpena, Mich., where he was the Chief Radiologic Technologist. He proudly served his country in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force during both World War II and Korea. Prior to moving to Washington State, Curtis and Ruth were members of Rivermont Avenue Presbyterian Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Randall Thackston of Tampa, Fla., and one daughter, Kristina-Ane Thom and her husband David of Pullman, Wash.; and two grandsons, Daniel Thom and his wife Jennifer of Oakdale, Conn., and Matthew Thom of Pullman, Wash.; one nephew, Jimmy Thackston and a niece, Sandra Best.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, Darlington Heights, Va., with the Rev. William Strong officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, 7404 Timberlake Rd., Lynchburg, Va.
