The Storch Soccer Academy is now taking registrations for the Introductory Soccer Camp for 4 & 5 year olds ($60), and the Youth Camp for 8-12 year olds ($75) during the week of June 23-27. A Goalkeeper Camp for 8-18 year olds ($75) and a Premier Camp for 10-18 year olds ($75) will be offered the week of July28-August 1. For more information, contact Tim Storch at 248-961-2553 or at

Challenger British Soccer Camps will be held June 16-20 at the East Campus Soccer Fields in Alpena. Morning sessions for ages 4-8 from 9 a.m.-noon. Afternoon sessions for ages 9-14 from 1-4 p.m. Registration can take place at or forms can be picked up at the East Campus soccer field concession stand. Thunder Bay Soccer Association (TBSA) Fall soccer registrations will be held June 17, Thurs. June 19, June 24 and June 26 at the East Campus Soccer Fields in Alpena from 5:30-7pm. Registration forms can also be downloaded, filled out and mailed in with payment. The inaugural Battle of the Paddles will be held on July 5 on the Thunder Bay River by the National Marine Sanctuary. Is is a 3K paddle board race which starts at the rotary bridge and goes to the mouth of the river and back. Cost before July 1 is $5 for students and $10 for adults. Cost after July 1 is $10 per student and $15 per adult. All racers must bring a paddleboard, baddle and PFD Type III.

Alpena High School Football strength and conditioning workouts take place every Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout the summer from 57 p.m. Students should come in through the locker room back entrance. Any Alpena High School student interested in playing football is welcome.

Alpena High School Football Camp will take place on July 28-30 from 6-8 p.m. at the football practice fields. There is a $20 fee for camp.

The AHS Football Right to Know (parent meeting) will be held at 7:30 PM on July 28 in the AHS auditorium. For additional information, call Coach Brian Tippman at 358-5219.

Rivers Edge Junior Golf early sign ups are available in the Pro Shop. Cost is $45 per child or $75 per Family/multiple children for the entire year. Jr. Golf begins next Tuesday at 7 am for High School, 7:30 am for Jr. High. 8:00 am for 6th and 7th Grade. 8:30 am for 5th & 6th Grade and 9 am for PK-2nd Grade. The Dork Brothers Racing 2014 Independence Day 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Run will take place on July 4.

The Fun Run starts at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K Run/Walk starts at 9 a.m.

Costs are-Entries before June 15: No Shirt-$5 for students, $10 adults/$25 family; Shirts are guaranteed for an additional $10. Entries after June 15: No Shirt: $10 for students, $20 adults/$40 family. Shirts (if available) are an additional $15.

Lost Lake Woods Club 2nd Annual 5k trail run and 3k trail walk will be held on July 26. Packet pick up is at 7am and races start at 8am. This year all proceeds will benefit the Alcona FFA Chapter. Friends and Family are sponsoring the 6th Annual “BIG A” (Jason Andersen) Memorial Scholarship Fund Golf Classic on Saturday, June 28 in memory of the late Jason E. Andersen formerly of Laingsburg, Alpena and Owosso, MI.

Those individuals wishing to pay tribute to Jason Andersen’s memory and participate in the 6th Annual Golf Outing can register by calling either Mike Putnam at 517-420-3181, Bill Bright at 989-255-1613, Mike Wolfe at 734-732-0625, or Janice Andersen at 989-666-2696. The Golf Outing is scheduled for June 28 at the Pine Hills Golf Course, 6603 Woodbury Road, Laingsburg, Mich. The event is a four person scramble, with registration starting at 8:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. The cost is $50 each.

Registrations are to be made or called in by today in order to have a sufficient number of golf carts, food, and beverages available. Although we do hope to accept on site golfers that day we cannot guarantee that there will be open spots.
