Donna Jean Smith, 53, of Alpena went home to be with the Father June 8, 2014. Donna’s passing was the result of a courageous battle with leukemia.

Donna Jean Stoinski was born April 23, 1961, in Alpena to the late Isadore and Bernice (Hanna) Stoinski. She loved her family very much, and enjoyed spending time with anyone she cared about. Donna had many jobs: wife, mother, sister, and friend. Next to these she loved driving bus for Alpena Public Schools; she was a driver for 17 years. It warmed her heart to hear from the kids she had on her bus routes.

Donna was an active member of Under His Wings Christian Fellowship. She loved Jesus and loved to share that with loved ones and strangers. Donna also enjoyed traveling all over the states. After 30 years of marriage Donna finally made it to Hawaii. Donna was married to her “boyfriend,” Stewart Smith, on May 17, 1980.

She leaves behind her husband Stewart of 34 years; three children, Cheryl Fry of Indiana, Shannon Smith of Mio, Andrew and his wife Melissa Smith of Durand; four grandchildren, Preston, Alanna, Elaine, Kolten; three siblings, Rita Kassel of Alabama, Peggy Batte of Arizona, Mike Delcour of Oregon; best friend and cousin “sister,” Kathy Medeiros of Alpena; as well as aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, in-laws, cousins, and friends whom she loved a lot.

Donna was preceded in death by her first husband, Stephen Fry, June 28, 1978, and her stepfather, Donald Skiver.

Mrs. Smith is at the Bannan Funeral Home where visitation will take place on Friday from 2-8 p.m. and where funeral service will take place on Saturday at 12 p.m. with Pastor Sam Blakeley officiating.
