The score remained tied with 10 minutes left until Macy Dickinson scored the game winner on an assist from Madyson Girard. Anna Young had an excellent game, hitting the goal post once and setting up her teammates with scoring chances. Emma Kelly earned a second half shutout as the keeper.

In Game 2, Alpena took a loss in league play against the Sault Civics who won 2-1. Alpena controlled most of the play in the first half. There were two defensive stand out plays for Alpena to keep Sault scoreless during the first half: Lyndsea Dorr shut down a break away attempt and Taylor Tolsdorf cleared a sure goal right in front of the net.

With two minutes left in the first half, Mollie Girard scored on a direct kick from just outside the 18-yard line to give Alpena a 1-0 lead.

The Civics outplayed Alpena in the second half and Alpena wore down a little bit from having no extra players to sub in. Three minutes into the second half, Sault scored on a penalty kick to tie the score. Five minutes later, the Civics’ right midfielder lofted a high shot over Alpena’s keeper Madyson Girard for a 2-1 lead.

Alpena had few good chances after that. With five minutes left. Kennedy Kaiser put a perfect through pass to Anna Young, who beat the defense and ripped a hard shot right at the keeper.
