Mariah Purol selected to attend Girls State
Mariah Purol has been selected by members of the William F. Weine American Legion Auxiliary to attend the the 2014 Girls State session to be held June 15-21 at Michigan State University. She is the daughter of Bernie and Patti Purol of Alpena and a student at Alpena High School.
Purol has been active in AHS Choir, Masquers Club and basketball. She is a member of Young Democrats of Alpena and volunteers at Thunder Bay Theatre. She has been on the Honor Roll for her entire high school career, including advance recognition in chemistry, speech, English and biology. She was chosen as the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership representative last year.
Purol also has worked as a sales associate at Gordon Foods Service and volunteered at the Huron Humane Society. She would like to obtain a degree in human services, and may join the Peace Corps.
Purol will attend a potluck supper at the August American Legion Auxiliary meeting to relate her experiences. Girls State is sponsored by Michigan American Legion Auxiliary.
