Alpena soccer improves despite loss to Petoskey

PETOSKEY-The Alpena girls soccer team turned in one of its most impressive performances of the year on Thursday, despite losing 4-3 to Petoskey in a Big North Conference contest.

Playing its third game in three days, Alpena trailed 1-0 at the half, but the Northment pulled away with three late goals in the second half.

“Our mistakes our fewer and further in between. The girls are improving and playing a better brand of soccer,” Alpena coach Tim Storch said. “It could have easily been 4-3. We had some glorious chances that were near misses.”

Alpena (3-11-2, 2-8 BN) hosts Sault Ste. Marie on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Alpena played to a scoreless tie with Oscoda. The Wildcats outshot the Owls 16-6 and Storch praised his team’s intensity, but said the Wildcats weren’t always able to finish on their scoring chances.
