The Alpena County Youth and Recreation Committee announces that applications for 2015 funding are now available on the County of Alpena’s website at www.alpenacounty.org. Organizations will have until June 2 at 4 p.m. to submit applications to the County for projects that provide recreational benefits to citizens living in Alpena County. Your organization must be recognized as a non-profit charitable organization. All funding will be contingent on the approval of the Millage Election being held on August 5. There will also be an Application information Meeting on April 30 at the Alpena County Commissioners Conference Room (Howard Male Conference Room) beginning at 6 p.m.

Alpena Jets football and cheer leading sign ups will take place May 19 and Tuesday May 20th from 5:30-7 in front of the AHS Gym. Reminder that all athletes will need a current sports physical on file before the first day of practice. We also need a copy of athletes birh certificate. The Light Up the Sky 5k Run/Walk will be held on May 25 to benefit the Presque Isle Harbor Fireworks fund. The race starts at the New Presque Isle Lighthouse. Late registration and check-in are 7:30 AM-8:45 AM. The race begins at 9 AM. Pre-registration is $20. Race day registration is $25.
The first 100 people registered are guaranteed a shirt and medal.

LISA’s RUN, a 5K Run/Walk along the Thunder Bay river will take place May 24 at 9:30 a.m. The race will start and end at the Alpena County Fairgrounds. Registration will begin 8:30 a.m. This event is sponsored by the Dork Brothers Racing Team with all proceeds going to the Lisa Borchard Memorial Scholarship Fund.
