DCCW regional meeting held in Alpena
Thirty-four ladies attended the a recent meeting of East Region of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women held at St. Anne Catholic Church in Alpena. One first timer and several attendees with birthdays were acknowledged.
President Angie Yarch had the secretary and treasurer reports read. She also talked about her trip to the National Convention this past September in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and passed on some information she received there. In addition, future province director of the Gaylord Diocese, Kate Melville-Hall, had a report for the group with some subjects up for discussion.
Sandy Donovan of Donovan’s Serenity and Wellness Spa in Alpena gave a presentation on her business and the services available there.
Several parish reports were read giving emphasis on what the various parishes have listed to do in the future months. Some reported about donating baby layettes to those in need, saying rosaries at parish services, blood bank helpers, jewelry sales, rummage sales and luncheons. Commission reports were given by Mary Marquardt on spirituality and Geri Konwinski on family.
Election of officers is incomplete at this time due to the absence of a vice president nomination. Those who have committed to date include: Linda Stemen, president; Joyce Harmon, treasurer; and Jacqui Smith, secretary.
Mass was celebrated by Father Jim Fitzpatrick and a luncheon enjoyed by all. Door prizes of blooming plants were given.
The next meeting is scheduled for June 24 at St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish in Rogers City, where all new officers will be installed. All Catholic women of the region are invited.
