APS investigating PAC funds for personal use
ALPENA – An investigation is under way after the treasurer of the Parent Advisory Council at Wilson Elementary School self-reported the expenditure of some PAC funds for personal use.
“We have made contact with the proper authorities, and are investigating the incident,” Holcomb said. “This shouldn’t effect the school going forward. This type of incident is covered under the district’s insurance policy for loss in such circumstances.”
Holcomb also said the individual had self-reported, and was working with the district.
“As to the amount, we’re pretty sure it’s over $1,000 based on the report,” Holcomb said. “A letter was sent out to communicate the circumstance with parents.”
Holcomb said the letter was sent to help parents understand what had happened, and to inform them the situation was being investigated.
In the letter sent home to Wilson families, Principal Jean Kowalski informed parents that the situation had been “… reported to the proper authorities and to the administrative staff at Central Office.”
Kowalski also said that “through restitution and district insurance, the money will be returned to the PAC account,” and “the future events that have been planned will still occur.”
The PAC works to raise funds for special events at the school such as trips, extra supplies like computers, TVs and books and for special program events.
Kowalski said the school will be “… reevaluating the accounting procedures going forward.”
