Mio tops Alcona for Class C district title

OSCODA-The Mio boys basketball team took quick control in a class C district championship game against Alcona on Friday, winning 57-41.

“The boys played hard and kept fighting, that’s all I asked and they responded,” Alcona coach Jason Somers said. “Mio has a nice club and is to be congratulated on their district title.”

Mio (19-2) led 17-4 after the first quarter and 29-18 at the half. It held the lead over Alcona (12-10) 42-26 after three.

Seth Thomey led Mio with 18 points while Ben Lubitz scored 17. Trenton LaVergne led Alcona with 14 points. Carson Jamieson added 11 while Dawson Forsythe scored 10.

“We will get back to work and get ready for next year, as for now we will miss the three great seniors we had in Garrette Norling, Carson Jamieson, and Dawson Forsythe,” Somers said.

Mio travels to Traverse City St. Francis on Monday where it will face Beaverton (20-2) at 5:30 p.m. in a regional semifinal game.
