Street Cats lose two to Detroit Fighting Irish

The Alpena Street Cats (21-18) dropped two against the Detroit Fighting Irish this weekend, with a 3-2 Saturday loss and a 6-5 Sunday loss.

The Fighting Irish took a 1-0 lead after the first period on Sunday when Joshua Arnold hit a goal at 14:52 in the first period.

The Street Cats answered back in the second with a Savelii Skurikhin goal at 6:10 and a short handed, unassisted Andrei Kiselev goal two minutes later to take a 2-0 lead.

The Fighting Irish scored three goals from 12:39 to 16:34 in the second to take a 4-2 lead into the third. Konstantin Khramov of the Street Cats hit a goal 30 seconds later while Anton Shtykov hit a goal two minutes later to narrow Detroit’s lead to 5-4 with 16 minutes left to play.

Ryan Krolikowski hit a short handed goal at 7:00 in the third to pull Detroit to a 6-4 lead. Andrei Kiselev narrowed it to 6-5 by scoring at 17:12, but the Street Cats couldn’t hit the tying goal.

Alpena goalie Aleksandr Shishkin picked up the loss, picking up 26 saves. Backup goalie Keegan McGraw saved a perfect 10.

Detroit’s John Slavik stopped 10 for the win.

Vladislav Khasnov starting things out strongly for Alpena on Saturday by hitting two goals, one at 8;39 and 10:17 in the first period to give Alpena a 2-0 lead. The Fighting Irish scored three unanswered goals in the rest of the game to take the win.

Shishkin saved 18 for Alpena while McGraw saved 19. Christopher Lewis of the Fighting Irish saved 22.

Alpena is back in action on Saturday, when it travels to face the Soo Firehawks.
