Township takes stand on water issues
Alpena Township officials, via a press release, maintained this morning that they have been subsidizing the City of Alpena’s water and sewer system for years and now that the two government entities are in negotiations over water rates, the city cannot afford to lose them.
Township officials also maintain that over a six year period (2005-06 through 2010-11) the City overcharged the Township by $1,717,350.32. Township officials expect the city to repay this amount and in a letter dated March 27, 2012, made city officials aware of their position. The release states city officials have never responded to that letter.
