Remembering Pearl Harbor memorial service
Did you “Remember Pearl Harbor” on December 7, 2013? We want to share these thoughts now that the holidays are over. We realize everyone is stressed and overextended during that time of the year. But, on December 7th the V.F.W. Alpena Post #2496 conducted a memorial service to honor and remember those lost in the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japanese forces, also to honor all former and current military personnel. An invitation to the public was printed in the newspaper. News media was invited. All were welcome. The service was held indoors, at the Post. Everyone was warm, dry, and seated. A change from former years when it was held outdoors at the Harbor, on the Riverfront. The service was well done and sincerely offered. An Honor Guard at attention. A memorial wreath placed on the marker. Rifle salute for the fallen. Prayers for the fallen. Prayers for all service personnel. Luncheon served by Auxiliary. Attendance by a few citizens. on obvious media in attendance. Audience made up of mostly former and current military, and their families. A very small audience for a service put on by a dedicated group to pay honor and remembrance to so many lost. How sad there were so few citizens available to “Remember Pearl Harbor”.
