CHARLEVOIX-The Rogers City wrestling team earned another team district title on Thursday, topping the host Red Rayders 49-28 in the final.
The Hurons beat Onaway 60-24 in the preliminary round.
The win advances Rogers City to a Division 4 regional on Wednesday in Manistque.
“It’s great. I was hoping to defend our title with this group and to win a district title with this group of kids is awesome especially on the back of winning the league title last Saturday,” Rogers City coach Pat Lamb said. “This is a hardworking group of kids and they deserve every accolade they get. (Winning regionals) is going to be a tall task, but we’re up for it.”
Double winners for Rogers City were: Tommy Vogelheim (103), Justin Saile (125), Noah Sobeck (130), Cam Urban (135), Cole Henry (140), Jack Ryan (145), Jake Sobeck (152), Austin Bober (171) and Andrew Selke (215).
Jared LaFleche (171) won one match for the Hurons.
Posen 67, Hale 17
POSEN-Korynn Hincka scored 29 points and the Posen girls basketball team earned its 16th straight win of the season on Thursday with a 67-17 victory over Hale.
Posen (16-0, 11-0 North Star) jumped out to a 24-3 lead after one quarter and led 43-9 at halftime.
Taylor Chojnacki, Austin Sharpe, Monica Bartz and Ashley Meyers each added six points for Posen.
The Vikings host Atlanta at 6 p.m. on Monday in a varsity-only game.
Rogers City 67,
OSCODA-The Rogers City girls basketball team jumped out to a 27-2 lead against Oscoda on Thursday and never looked back, going on to defeat the Owls 67-17.
Logan Fleming, Alexa Quaine and Megan Quaine each had 11 points for the Hurons (10-3) and Courtney Streich added 10.
“The girls played excellent defense tonight. They came out and played very well,” Rogers City coach Gary Bisson said.
Rogers City led 43-7 at halftime and 60-7 after three quarters.
The Hurons host Hillman at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday in a Purple Game.
Fairview 45, Au Gres 29
FAIRVIEW-Logan Winton scored 17 points and the Fairview girls basketball team earned its second win of the week with a 45-29 triumph over Au Gres on Thursday.
The Eagles led 11-9 after one quarter and 24-15 at halftime. Fairview outscored the Wolverines 21-14 in the second half.
Katie Ford added eight points for the Eagles.
Fairview plays at Arenac Eastern on Monday.
Onaway 57, Inland Lakes 28
ONAWAY-The Onaway girls basketball team overcame a pregame loss to earn a 57-28 win over Inland Lakes on Thursday in Ski Valley Conference action.
Onaway point guard Jade Galer went down in warmups and the Cardinals (8-7, 6-6 Ski Valley) were sluggish at the start of the game, but ultimately took control in the second half.
“We came out a little bit passive and were a little reckless with the basketball, but we made some adjustments and it changed our intensity completely,” Onaway coach Marty Mix said.
Onaway led 12-8 after one quarter and 26-15 at halftime. The Cardinals pulled away for good in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 22-1.
Lexi Szymoniak had a double-double for Onaway with 10 points and 16 rebounds. Devin Bristley added 16 points and Erika Price had 13 points.
Onaway plays at Forest Area at 5 p.m. on Tuesday in a varsity-only game and returns home on Wednesday to host Central Lake.
