Series of Winter Workshops offered at Art in the Loft

Art in the Loft currently is offering a series Winter Workshops for various ages. The first class on stained glass takes place today. The class schedule is as follows:

  • Today Stained Glass Snowflakes or Abstract Sun Catcher with artist Peggy Matuzak.

Learn basic stained glass techniques and apply them to your own piece of art. Choose from an abstract sun catcher or dazzling star. All supplies are included. Two times are available for this class: 1-4 p.m. or 5:30-8:30 p.m.

The class is for ages teen to adult. Cost is $35 for members, $40 for non-members. Students will be taught composition, perspective, anatomy and line quality.

  • Feb. 8 Introduction to the Art of Colored Pencil Drawing with artist E.P. Lewandowski.

This class in an introduction to colored pencil drawing and designed for the beginner to intermediate student interested in learning about the fundamentals of colored pencil use and application. The workshop will cover a variety of topics and activities from pencil equipment to drawing exercises.

The class will focus on detailing, stages of development with a drawing, color, overlay techniques and the basics of composition.

Hours of the class are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a lunch break. Cost is $60 for members, $70 for non-members. A supply list will be given at sign up.

  • Feb. 14-15 Corkscrews and Canvas with artist Justin Christensen-Cooper.

Paint and laugh with friends while enjoying a glass of good wine or your favorite micro-brew beers. Participants will be directed step-by-step in the creation of their own painted masterpiece that can be taken home at the end of the two-hour session.

Friendly instruction offers enough support and creative freedom to make each brush stoke your own. The painting party is intended for all levels and skills of artists, ages 21 and up. Supplies and first drink included. Cash bar available after complimentary drink.

The Feb. 14 date is for couples and runs 5:30-7:30 p.m. The Feb. 15 date is for individuals and runs 2-4 p.m. Cost is $30 for members, $35 for non-members.

  • Feb. 22 Digital Dazzle with artist Chuck Bennett.

Unlock the “wow power” in your digital photographs. This class will provide tools, tips, tricks and techniques for making your best photographs ever. Advice on exposure, lighting and composition also will be given.

This is a demonstrative class with no equipment needed. Handouts will be provided.

Time of the class is 1-5 p.m. and is for adults. Cost is $45 for members, $50 for non-members.

  • March 1 Black and White Multi-Fringe Bracelet with artist Lynn Freitag.

In the class participants will explore several types of fringe techniques that will be combined to create a one-of-a-kind bracelet with tons of beads in random shapes and sizes.

Fringe takes time, so after assembling the bracelet students will walk away with all the knowledge of different fringe techniques to continue on with their bracelet at home.

A bead kit is included, but feel free to bring task lighting and beading surface to class. Hours are 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for adults only. Cost is $50 for members, $55 for non-members.
