TRAVERSE CITYDespite 64 saves from senior goaltender Jesse Boilore, the Alpena High School hockey team came up on the short end against Traverse City Central on Saturday, losing 3-1.

Jared Plume scored Alpena’s only goal and the Wildcats (9-8-1) managed just seven shots on goal.

Alpena will host Cadillac today at 4 p.m. in a make-up game from Friday.


Rogers City takes 4th at Northern Michigan Championships

GAYLORD-The Rogers City wrestling team took fourth place at the Northern Michigan Championships in Gaylord on Saturday and walked away as the top Division 4 team as well.

The Hurons finished with 108 points trailing only Gaylord (199), Petoskey (133) and Escanaba (130).

Jake Sobeck (140) and Andrew Selke (215) took second place for Rogers City in their respective weight classes and Cam Urban (135) took third.

Justin Saile (125, 5th place), Tristan Baller (112, 8th place), Noah Sobeck (130, 8th place), Jack Ryan (145, 5th place), Austin Bober (152, 6th place) and Jared LaFleche (171, 7th place) also placed for the Hurons.

Tommy Vogelheim (103) won a match for Rogers City and the Hurons got contributions from their entire lineup to finish fourth.

Rogers City will wrestle in a North Star League quad in Mio on Wednesday.
