POSEN-The Posen girls basketball team stayed undefeated on Wednesday after beating Cedarville 74-44.
“This was a great game for us. Despite Korynn Hincka being double and triple teamed throughout the first half, Ashley Meyers and Austin Sharpe stepped up for us and scored 23 points between the two of them,” Posen coach Karl Momrik said.
Posen (8-0) led 20-6 after the first quarter and 44-18 at the half. Cedarville came a little closer in the third quarter with a 57-32 spread, but was held to 12 points in the fourth.
Hincka had 38 points for the Vikings, including 23 in the second half. Meyers had 15 points and Sharpe had 12.
Hincka’s 38 points puts her at 1,933 career points. This gives her the opportunity to be the first girl in the history of the North Star League to break 2,000 points.
“She broke Posen’s girl record in Fairview and there’s a good chance she could break the record at home against either Au Gres or Arenac. It would mean so much to the program and the school if she did,” Momrik said.
The Viking’s JV team won 38-24. Posen travels to Atlanta on Friday.
ONAWAY-The Onaway girls basketball team came from behind in the fourth quarter to beat Ski Valley Conference rival Mancelona 35-31 on Wednesday.
“We were down the whole game, but we closed the gap and came out ahead in the end. Defensively, I’m not disappointed by holding an opponent to 31 points and our offensive attack was pretty balanced all night,” Onaway coach Marty Mix said.
Onaway was down 6-5 in the first quarter and 15-11 at the half. It trailed 24-23 by the end of the third.
Lexi Szymoniak had a double-double for the night with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Onaways travels to Pellston on Friday.
