Hillman hoops teams beat Rudyard

HILLMAN-Mason VanPamel scored 26 points and grabbed 16 rebounds and the Hillman boys basketball team improved to 4-0 with a 79-62 win over Rudyard on Monday.

Hillman (4-0, 3-0 North Star League) trailed 27-23 with a few minutes left before halftime, but ended the second quarter on a 6-0 to take a 29-27 lead.

“We went to a full-court trap that they had an issue with,” Hillman coach Eric Muszynski said.

Ty Jones added 15 points for Hillman, Gunnar Libby had 13 points and Brenden Zimmer added 12 points and six rebounds and provided a physical presence for the Tigers the entire night.

“I thought he played his best game for me tonight,” Muszynski said.

Zack Steikar led Rudyard with 16 points, but 14 of those came in the first half.

Hillman outscored Rudyard 22-13 in the third quarter and was off and running from there.

Hillman plays at Bellaire on Friday.

RUDYARD-The Hillman girls basketball team got back to the .500 mark with a 58-45 win over Rudyard last Saturday.

Hillman (2-2, 1-2 North Star League) trailed 14-4 after one quarter, but outscored the Bulldogs 16-3 in the second quarter to take control the rest of the way.

Jensen Tchorzynski led Hillman with 19 points and Vanessa Schook added 13.
