Besser Male Chorus continues tradition of Christmas concert

The Besser Male Chorus will present its annual Christmas concert on Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Alpena

Berniece “Bunny” Lyon will direct the chorus with Suelyn Bartz as piano accompanist and MaryAnn Hubbard on flute.

The concert will feature mostly Christmas music with songs such as “An English Carol Medley,” “The First Noel,” “Silent Night” and “O Holy Night.” Also featured will be a solo by Jessica Pearson, granddaughter of 54-year member Eldon Grabow.

A quartet comprised of David Usher, Rick Grulke, Elden Grabow and Ronald Karr will perform “Mary Did You Know?” and “Silver Bells.” Bartz and Lyon will combine their talents on a piano duet of “Angels Ever Bright and Fair” by Handel.

Twenty-four members currently make up the Besser Male Chorus, which has been in existence for 67 years. The chorus, which practiced weekly, began rehearsing in September for the Christmas concert.

Admission to the concert is by donation.
