Street Cats battle to hold second place on Sunday

The Alpena Street Cats host the Detroit Fighting Irish on Sunday at 5:00 pm at the Northern Lights Arena.

The Street Cats are currently 9-5 and in second place in the Midwest Junior Hockey League.

The Fighting Irish are third place at 8-5.

A win by Detroit would pull them into a tie for second with Alpena, while a loss would give Alpena a two game spread in the standings.

The Street Cats and the Fighting Irish haven’t faced each other since the first weekend in November.

The Street Cats swept the Irish in that three game series.

They won the Friday game 3-0, picked up a 5-4 shoot out win on Saturday and won 4-2 on Sunday.

Alpena split last weekend’s two game home series with first place Traverse City Hounds.

They won a tight 2-1 win on Friday, but nearly got shut out in a 4-1 loss on Saturday.

The Fighting Irish lost to the Michigan Ice Dogs 7-6 last Friday, but beat the Berkley Bruins 5-1 on Saturday.

Sunday is the last home game for the Street Cats until December 13th.
