MSP investigating fatal accident
ALPENA TOWNSHIP – The Michigan State Police is investigating a fatal traffic accident on US-23 near E. Grand Lake Road.
Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon after a northbound car lost control just south of the E. Grand Lake Road intersection and was struck head-on by a southbound pickup, MSP Sgt. Craig Johnson said. The driver of the car was killed as a result. More details are being witheld pending further investigation and notification of the victim’s family.
The highway between E. Grand Lake Road and Lakewood Drive is closed, and will be for some hours as police continue to investigate, Alpena County Sheriff’s Sgt. J.P. Ritter said. Traffic was being redirected onto Grand Lake Road and Lakewood Drive, south of the highway.
