Alcona loses district final in four sets

OSCODA-The Alcona volleyball team’s season came to an end Friday with a four-set loss to Houghton Lake in a Class C district final.

Houghton Lake beat the Tigers 25-13, 17-25, 27-25 and 25-17 to move to a regional semifinal on Tuesday.

“We had some mental mistakes defensively and we didn’t move as well as we should have,” Alcona coach Kristi Arnold said. “But the girls kept fighting.”

Karina Cole led the Tigers with nine kills, eight digs and two blocks and Sierra Forsythe added three aces.

Arnold was proud of her team’s effort throughout the season.

“I’m very proud of the girls. They adjusted well on the court and played together as a team,” she said.
