Sobeck wins Rogers City mayoral race
ROGERS CITY – Tom Sobeck has been elected mayor of Rogers City, and Kenneth Bielas and A.J. Przybyla III, will serve on city council.
Unofficial results show Sobeck took 375 votes, with challengers Jerry Wagner getting 200, Mayor Pro Tem Deb Greene 197 and council member Dana LaBar 149. Sobeck said he’s humbled by the support he received, and plans to meet with current Mayor Beach Hall to plan the transition.
“I did not expect to do as well as I did, for whatever reason,” he said. “I do appreciate the support citizens have shown. I have big shoes to fill and high expectations to meet, and I look forward to doing that.”
Sobeck also congratulated the other candidates for their well-run campaigns, for staying positive and for working hard for the votes they received.
LaBar, in turn, congratulated Sobeck on his victory, and thanked the candidates for their interest in improving the city. His three years on city council will come to an end in December.
Wagner was pleased to take second place, he said, and felt surprised by the results. He, too, congratulated Sobeck on his victory and praised the other contenders.
Bielas looks forward to getting things done on city council, he said. He got 618 votes, Przybyla 652 and Stypick 292. The three candidates are good friends, Bielas said, and although Stypick lost they’ll likely remain so.
“They’re all a bunch of good guys,” he said. “We’ll work the best we can with our new mayor, which is Tom, and I’m very pleased.”
Messages left with Greene were not returned, and Przybyla was out of town Tuesday.
