13 competing in Miss Sunrise Side programs

Thirteen area young women will compete this Saturday for the titles of Miss Sunrise Side and Miss Sunrise Side Outstanding Teen 2013.

The Scholarship Pageant will take place at 4 p.m. at the Alpena High School Auditorium. Tickets to attend the event can be purchased at the door for general admission seating for $15.

Miss Sunrise Side is a local preliminary competition to the Miss Michigan and Miss America Scholarship Pageants. The winner of Miss Sunrise Side will receive a $2,000 cash scholarship and a $4,000 Alpena Community College Scholarship, which is sponsored by the ACC Foundation.

Overall, more than $7,000 will be awarded to the winners and runner-ups. Alexandra Kramer is the current Miss Sunrise Side 2012. She represented the Sunrise Side in June as she competed for the title of Miss Michigan 2013 in Muskegon.

Caitin Borke will be passing on her title as Miss Sunrise Side Teen. She competed for the title of Miss Michigan’s Outstanding Teen in June and was a top 10 finalist.

This year’s Miss Sunrise Side contestants are:

  • Jessica Kuligowski, 19-year-old daughter of Gene and Dawn Kuligowski of Au Gres. She is a freshman at Alpena Community College. She will perform a vocal/instrumental presentation for her talent.
  • Jess Ruppert, 22-year-old daughter of Dawn and Scott Cooper of Rogers City. She is a graduate of Central Michigan University. She will perform a jazz vocal for her talent.
  • Amber Penman, 22-year-old daughter of Ann and Scott Penman of East Tawas. She is a senior at Central Michigan University. She will perform a vocal solo for her talent.
  • Kaylee LaFave, 18-year-old daughter of Darryl and Hope LaFave of Harrisville. She is a sophomore at Lake Superior State University. She will perform a vocal solo for her talent.
  • Alanna Barsen, 19-year-old daughter of Greg and Shelly Barsen of Alpena. She is a sophomore at Saginaw Valley State University. She will perform a point dance for her talent.
  • Alexis Hubert, 22-year-old daughter of Tom and Tammy Hubert of Hillman. She is a junior at Alpena Community College and Northwood University. She will perform a jazz dance for her talent.
  • Shelby Dean, 17-year-old daughter of Allie and John Dean of Hillman. She is a senior at Hillman Junior/Senior High School. She will perform a belly dance for her talent.
  • Paige Lewandowski, 19-year-old daughter of Mark and Denise Lewandowski of Posen. She is a sophomore at Alpena Community College. She will perform a piano solo for her talent.
  • Emilee Madison, 17-year-old daughter of Bryan Madison of Onaway. She is a senior at Onaway High School. She will perform a tap dance for her talent.
  • Shelby Fransee, 23-year-old daughter of Edward and Julie Fransee of Hale. She is a senior at Saginaw Valley State University. She will perform a vocal solo for her talent.

The Miss Sunrise Side Teen Contestants include:

  • Heather Hentkowski, 15-year-old daughter of Matthew and Laura of Rogers City. She is a sophomore at Rogers City High School. She will perform a dance for her talent.
  • Emily Hansen, 16-year-old daughter of Chris Ewing of Missouri and Jessica Hansen of Alpena. She is a junior at Alpena High School. She will perform sign language for her talent.
  • Hollie Fort, 14-year-old daughter of Carla Campbell of Oscoda. She is freshman at Oscoda High School. She will perform a vocal solo for her talent.
