Wildcats sweep Gaylord

GAYLORD-The Alpena volleyball team earned up a sweep of the Gaylord Blue Devils on Wednesday, winning 25-19, 25-18 and 25-19.

“We’ve had a pretty good week of volleyball. The kids came out to play and they played intensely all night. Everybody was so aggressive and I’m really proud of how aggressive they played tonight,” Alpena coach Melissa Doubek said.

Logan Myers had 11 kills and nine digs for Alpena. Emma Strong had 10 kills while Jordan Modrzynski had seven kills.

“Jordan had a really great night tonight. She served a lot of great rally points that helped us pick up the win,” Doubek said.

Taylor Genschaw had five kills and 11 digs while Mikaela Overton had 17 digs. Alexis Smith contributed two aces, 27 assists and 10 digs on the night.

The Alpena JV team also picked up win with scores of 25-12 and 25-21. Macy Cosbitt and Lindsey Moggie had eight kills each while Chloe Ferguson had 13 assists.

The freshmen team also beat Gaylord with scores of 25-20, 25-18, but lost the third set 22-25. Katie Mack and Jessica Marwede each had five kills.

Alpena’s freshmen team also beat Traverse City West on Monday in three sets, 18-25, 25-22 and 25-23. Kaitlyn Schultz had 10 assists, Brooke Paczkowski had seven kills and Jazmyn Schultz had five kills.

Alpena hosts Cadillac on Wednesday.
