Prep Roundup (10-22-13)

MANCELONA-The Onaway volleyball team wrapped up a second straight Ski Valley Conference title on Tuesday, beating Mancelona in three sets, 25-17, 25-14 and 25-12.

The win gave Onaway a perfect 8-0 in conference play after the Cardinals dropped just two sets in conference matches.

“I thought our energy increased as the night went on, mostly in anticipation of winning the conference title,” Onaway coach Steve Watson said. “You don’t get to to that every day or every year. We’ve had a lot of years where we couldn’t get past Pellston and now we’re at the top of the heap. That’s due in large part to the girls putting in work in the offseason and in season.”

Mariah Ehrke had 12 kills and seven digs for Onaway; Lexi Szymoniak had eight kills, six aces and four digs; Taylor Ehrke had 22 assists and eight digs; Devin Bristley had four kills, five aces and eight digs; Sara Fullerton had three kills, two aces and six digs; Ashley LaLonde had five assists and Morganne Badgero had four digs.

The Cardinals are currently ranked No. 3 in Class D and are 39-6-3 on the year. Onaway plays at the St. Louis Tournament on Saturday.
