ATLANTAThe Rogers City volleyball team swept host Atlanta in three sets on Thursday, 25-10, 25-19 and 25-9.

“I’m out a couple of starters, Jena Tulgestke hurt her hand and is sitting for the rest of the week. But, we had some girls slide to the middle to take her place that did a real nice job,” Rogers City coach Jackie Quaine said.

Cassidy Purgiel had eight kills and six aces on the night. Alex Quaine picked up five kills and five aces. Jenna Kasubowski snagged five kills of her own. Cassie Brege had five asses and 25 assists.

Defensively, Megan Quaine had 15 digs. Courtney Streich had 11 digs while Autumn Idalski had eight.

Rogers City is now 27-8-1 and 8-0 in the North Star League. The Hurons host Au Gres on Tuesday.


Saginaw Nouvel 3,

Alcona 0

SAGINAW-The Alcona soccer team saw its season come to an end on Thursday during a 3-0 loss to Saginaw Nouvel in a rainy Division 4 district game.

Chase Matthews made 12 saves for Alcona, which finished the season at 10-10.

The loss ended Alcona’s quest for a second straight district title after the Tigers won one en route to a regional final appearance last season.

Alcona shared the North Star League title with Oscoda this season after both teams finished 5-1.
